lament-for-boromir replied to your post: So who is your favorite Fury? 616? Ultimates? Is movie!Fury straight from Ultimates, or do you find some hints of 616 peeking out? And how do you feel about this new move with Marvel Now, like the whole Nick Fury Jr. thing? I really just want to hear you talk about Fury pls.
I try my hardest to like 616 Fury but he just seems…sleazy to me. Dunno. But that’s neat. I didn’t want to start with Ultimates, but given a good storyline, I might have to dive in.
He is VERY sleazy and that’s why I find it kind of difficult to like him. The past couple of years, too, he’s gone totally off the rails and it’s really hard to find any redeeming qualities in him.
If you’re interested in Ultimates Fury, I recommend picking up Ultimate Spider-man. You can start with the Peter Parker stuff if you want but tbh it’s pretty depressing. I’d just go straight for Miles Morales. He is actually the best thing to happen in comics in ever and I cannot say enough good things about him. Fury has a pretty decent role in his comics and it seems like it’s just going to keep getting bigger, so there ya go.
Just… whatever you do, avoid the actual Ultimates series. It’s fucking awful and will make you hate all of the characters that you love.
Okay, see, here’s the thing.
Ultimates Fury is the only Fury.
Not that I have anything against 616 Fury, he’s a pretty cool guy even if he is kind of a shiesty asshole. It’s just that Ultimates Fury is sassy and badass and weirdly self-aware. Like, I’m pretty sure that dude know he’s in a comic book. And also, there’s this:
which is basically the greatest two panels of all time. I mean, Peter Parker (who is dead in the Ultimate universe btw) shows up randomly, much older than he was when he died, claims he’s from an alternate dimension, and Fury is just kinda sassy about it. And that’s why I love him.
I would like to take a moment to discuss how great Max Fury is, though. With the cigars and the whores and the beating high ranking military officials with his belt. HILARIOUS.
But yeah, MCU Fury is basically just Ultimates Fury, and I am completely okay with that. 616 Fury has too much backstory and craziness going on, whereas Ultimates Fury is…. slightly less insane I guess, but it’s comics so you have to expect a certain amount of craziness. I do enjoy the idea that if their back stories are similar, MCU Fury has a bionic arm. ;)
And the Nick Fury Jr. thing is… kind of a loaded question. Because I like it, I really really do. I love the new Fury, I love that we’re getting a fresh take on the character. 616 Fury has so much baggage and I’m really excited to see what they do with Fury Jr. and I LOVE THE WAY HE INTERACTS WITH COULSON JUST LOOK AT THIS SHIT GOOD GOD I SHIP IT SO HARD
His origin was really really really unbelievably stupid and I actually sprained my eyes because I rolled them so fucking hard. But still. I love the guy so I’ll give him a pass.
